Philosophy of Teaching Reading

I believe that all children can learn to read and write and it is my responsibility to become an expert teacher.  In order to become and remain an expert teacher I need to continue my professional development and to collaborate, share and reflect with other expert teachers.  Children will learn at different rates but need to be motivated by reading enjoyment and real life applications of reading.

My Role as a Leader in the Field of Reading

As a leader it is my responsibility to help create an environment where children learn to read and write.  I would motivate and assist teachers in becoming experts in teaching reading.  It is important to work together with staff to identify the particular needs of the school.  After identifying the needs and making attainable goals it is my job to model strategies, encourage discussion and collaboration, gather and supply resources and set up or present professional development.  It is a team effort that should involve staff, administration and families.
